Tender Invitation for Consultants to Develop a Model for a Business Incubator Unit

Posted in: General News

Forth Environment Link (FEL) is in the course of progressing projects towards delivering the ‘Economic Development’ strand of its Forth Valley Orchards’ Initiative, funded by the CSGN Development Fund 2012.

We are seeking to dovetail a strategic approach to the economic development of orchards with FEL’s strategy for longer-term sustainability, and now wish to appoint a suitably qualified consultant to develop a robust and viable economic model for a Business Incubator Unit, develop a Business Plan to implement the model, and identify potential orchard and orchard-related commercial opportunities in the Forth Valley and beyond.

We envisage that an FEL Business Incubator Unit will support the establishment of:

  •  Independent new and diversified orchard and orchard-related commercial ventures, examples of which include: orchard consultancies; orchard management; fruit processing; fruit production; training; education or retailing
  • In-house commercial projects presented by other FEL initiatives, in particular – the Grow Forth local food, and Zero Waste networks.

Longer-term, it is our desire that FEL grows a financially-viable social enterprise arm where commercially successful elements of the business not only cover operating costs, but are invested back into the community.

For further information and to download the tender document, please visit FEL’s Forth Valleys Orchards website at: http://www.forthvalleysorchards.org.uk/page/orchard-economics.

A supporting document, a study commissioned in 2012 by Forth Environment Link into ‘The Economic Potential of Forth Valley’s Orchard Resource’ by Tourism and Environment Consultancy in association with Talk Associates, is available at: http://db.tt/Jw1r7O5k.

Tender submissions should include an outline of methodology and approach, skills and experience, proposals for reporting and delivery of project objectives, and a detailed schedule of cost and resources.

The project budget is set at £9,000, inclusive of VAT.  Consultants’ quotes should not exceed this level of funding and should contain all relevant expenses.

The project will run from 11 February 2013 until 31 March 2013.

Tender submissions should be made by 12 noon on Friday, 25 January 2013 and submitted to:
