Research Project to identify the needs of Black and Minority Ethnic communities in Scotland – Perth and Kinross Association of Voluntary Service Limited

PKAVS Services for Minority Communities (MEAD) wishes to commission research to gain a better understanding and a clear national picture of the needs of BME communities in Scotland and the ability of Public, Third Sector and Independent Sector organisations to address those needs. The research seeks to help policy and service provision improvements and gather robust information about gaps in provision.
We believe that all future services planning and legislation should be based on the best available research and evidence. As a high impact one-stop-shop for minority ethnic support in Perth & Kinross, MEAD engages in its own research, policy work and community engagement in order to influence positive change with regards to BME communities’ needs and issues. In addition, MEAD produces annual community intelligence reports highlighting the needs and barriers faced by local BME communities and the impact of supports and interventions.
With support from the Big Lottery Fund’s Great Ideas MEAD is commissioning its first piece of national research. The aim of this 6-month study is to independently gather robust information about gaps in service provision and provide recommendations to inform future policy and develop effective services by providing high quality equality data and sharing good practice.
