Counselling & Therapy Framework – Aberdeenshire Council

Aberdeenshire Council’s Community Substance Misuse Service (CSMS) is committed to making a difference and offering hope for the future. We are commissioning these services for the following reason: to provide a framework of recovery focussed counselling & therapy services to Aberdeenshire Service Users eligible to receive substance misuse services.

Currently, the Aberdeenshire Council purchases ad-hoc counselling and therapy services from a number of individuals and one contracted Service Provider in Oldmeldrum. The provision is offered in Inverurie and the central Aberdeenshire area. There is also some limited provision in the north of Aberdeenshire
The framework will include Service Providers who can offer one or more of the following services: Person-Centred Counselling, other styles of Counselling, Equine Therapy, 1:1 support, Art Therapy, a range of Alternative Therapies, Relationship Counselling, Bereavement Counselling, Sexual Abuse Counselling, Historical Childhood Abuse Counselling, Domestic Abuse Counselling, Trauma & Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Counselling, and Substance Misuse Counselling. The aim is for Service Users and their significant others to be supported in their recovery journeys; be less dependent; and increase the individuals’ recovery capacity and improve resilience. We are looking to establish equity and fairness of access to provision across Aberdeenshire. The age range within the services is 16-65+years old. All the services will be delivered within Aberdeenshire and be responsive to the area’s increasingly diverse demographic. The services under the framework will reduce the dependency on statutory services and support those who have used statutory services. The framework will align to the ADP’s Service Delivery Plan and National Quality Outcomes for Substance Misuse.

Quality of Life in Later Years – Voices of Older People in Scotland Research Project

The project aims to:
• Hear, through a variety of approaches, from people aged 50 plus in Scotland about the kind of life they want to live in their later years, including if they were ever to have dementia or become an unpaid carer.
• Increase understanding of what older people in Scotland believe will help them secure that quality of life.
• Pull out common themes and threads for further discussion from a highly practical perspective.
• Reflect back to policy makers (in both Scotland and the UK), service providers (all sectors), communities (geographical and of interest), families and older people themselves what needs to be done by the State and by individuals to support quality of life in later years.
