Taking Food Waste Off The Menu

Thursday 9th February 2016 | 10:00 – 12:00 hrs

From 1st January, all food businesses in Scotland have been required to present food waste for separate collection by law. In fact, food businesses that produce over 5kg of food waste per week have had to do this for some time. You are a food business if you process, distribute, prepare or sell food, whether as part of your core business or as a service you provide to staff/visitors. But, if you are a food business, simple compliance with the regulations really shouldn’t be the performance standard you set yourself.

Join this free training workshop to find out…

  • if your business is affected by the food waste requirements;
  • why preventing food waste makes more business sense than recycling; and
  • the simple actions all food businesses can take to prevent food waste – from the smallest take-away to the largest hotel.

The workshop will be led by Resource Efficient Scotland, a Scottish Government funded programme, delivered by Zero Waste Scotland that provides free, expert advice to help organisations save money and carbon by using energy, water and material resources more efficiently.

Background Information:

Part of the FTSE 250 Pennon Group, Viridor is Scotland’s leading recycling, renewable energy and sustainable waste partner. Working with 96% of Scottish local authorities, public bodies and Scotland’s leading businesses, Viridor operates a £100m Scottish network of advanced recycling infrastructure and is investing £500m to translate Scottish zero waste policy into practice.

Viridor is working with Glasgow City Council to design, build finance and operate a European class modern recycling and renewable energy centre to better manage the city’s 200,000 tonnes of residual waste that until now would have gone to landfill. The £154m project will deliver a broad range of opportunities for small businesses and social enterprises including a commitment to support a programme of capacity building workshops.
