Invitation to tender for an EIA Of the Annual Girvan Folk Festival (PDF) – Girvan Traditional Folk Festival

The Girvan Traditional Folk Festival Group would now like to commission an Economic Impact Assessment of the annual Folk Festival that will:

* Provide evidence to support funding applications
* Identify opportunities for improvements to the Festival
* Be the basis for the development of longer term plans.

It is a commonly held view that the Folk Festival weekend is the busiest of the year for the town. This assignment will test that and quantify the benefits of the Festival to the local area.

The consultant(s) will be expected to carry out research, survey, case study and other work to be able to estimate the Festival’s direct, indirect and induced economic impacts. This should take into account deadweight and displacement effects and should apply appropriate multipliers – based on the Scottish Tourism Multiplier Study or some other model that the consultant(s) might propose.

It is expected that the assignment will gather data and views from a range of sources including audience members, performers, hoteliers, retailers and that the report on the EIA will include proposals for monitoring progress and updating the Assessment in future years.

Where possible, the consultant(s) should comment on any other less quantifiable outputs from the Festival, for example, relating to local social benefits or positive impacts on the image of the area. Also where possible, the consultant(s) should highlight future opportunities to increase both commercial income for the group and overall economic impact of the Festival.

Feasibility Study for Future Use of Lochmaddy Hospital Site
 (PDF)

The Lochmaddy Hospital Redevelopment Steering Group (LHRSG) was established in 2014 as a result of community consultation carried out by groups of local residents into potential uses for the former Lochmaddy Hospital and the wider hospital site. LHRSG has ten members and an interim constitution, and although its prime focus is the Lochmaddy Hospital site, it was set up to benefit the people of the whole HS6 postcode area, that is, the whole of North Uist. The objectives of the group are to consult with, inform, represent the interests of, and feedback to the whole of the North Uist community with regard to the Hospital site. It is tasked with undertaking discussions with agencies, public bodies and landowners to explore and take forward potential future uses of the Hospital site, for the benefit of the local community. In order to do this the group will secure funding to support their activities, and at an appropriate time in the future they will establish a community company to take the proposals/development to the next stage.

As well as working with NUDC, they have also been working with HIE, CNES, UHI and Sabhal Mòr Ostaig.
The Lochmaddy Hospital Redevelopment Steering Group now wishes to commission a Feasibility Study to explore the viability of a number of different options for the site which have arisen as a result of community consultation and discussions with various partners.
